112.7 is a site-specific work commissioned by Site95, for a hallway within a decommissioned steamboat on the west side of Manhattan. The piece focuses on a 112.7 Hz hum that is present in the space from a power generator. Two pairs of speakers attached to the wall randomly play amplitude-tapered tones that emphasize different harmonics of the existing tone, fading and cutting off in numerous variations, to heighten the passerby’s awareness of the tones and sounds already present in the space. The generative installation plays different combinations of sounds intermittently, with an infinite possible stream of sound superimposition.
